Brent Nicholson, a Holland College Paramedic Program & Degree Program in Paramedicine at UPEI faculty, has been a Paramedic and Paramedic educator for 22 years with experience in rural, urban, remote and emergency department paramedic environments. Originally from Nova Scotia, Brent is proud to have grown up as a paramedic around some of the giants in emergency medicine and EMS that call Halifax home. Brent transitioned from working as a ground Advanced Care Paramedic in Halifax to becoming a Paramedic Educator, first at the School of Allied Health and now for the last decade at Holland College. During that time, Brent has completed Certificates in Adult Education from UNB and Henson College, Dalhousie and sits on several provincial and national boards relating to EMS. Brent is married to the love of his life and is the immensely proud father of three. When not in front of students in beautiful Charlottetown, or doing shifts in the Collaborative Emergency Centre at Western Hospital in Alberton, Brent can be found on a mountain bike in the woods or at Prince Edward Island’s world class North and South shore beaches.

Alan M. Batt is Adjunct Associate Professor of Paramedic Science at CQUniversity, and Professor in the paramedic programs at Fanshawe College, and the Institute for Health Professionals at Portland Community College. He has clinical, education and research experience across nine countries. His primary academic interests lie in paramedic education, reflective practice, patient safety and research capacity. He is Vice-President of the Irish College of Paramedics and Editor of the Irish Journal of Paramedicine. Alan is completing his PhD in paramedic education at Monash University.

Current will take you on a journey of interpretation through the field of electrocardiography. With over twenty years of paramedicine under their belts, Current has a passionate and animated approach to presenting Electrocardiography. David Klein, Lead Instructor, began teaching when he was a Paramedic Education Facilitator at Sunnybrook Centre for Prehospital Medicine in Toronto. Dave continued his passion for education and traveled around the world attending courses to expand his knowledge. David has the honour of being the first paramedic to successfully complete a course in Advanced ECG Interpretation through the University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston. Klein’s energy is not for the faint of heart. He will have you depolarizing right out of your seat and leave you feeling positively charged about ECG education. Klein takes complicated, indepth topics and translates them into simple matters of the heart which will lead you through a
journey. Offering courses on ECG Interpretation, Current focuses on the role of the prehospital ECG, treatment of Acute Coronary Syndrome, and the importance of in-depth clinical assessment. Learners will leave with fundamental knowledge of interpreting cardiac dysrhythmias, identifying cardiac anatomy, and ECG changes consistent with early myocardial injury. Current’s method of teaching will get your heart pumping!

Judah Goldstein is the Research Coordinator for Emergency Health Services Nova Scotia. Judah is a Primary Care Paramedic and has worked in the EHS ground ambulance system since 2000. He obtained an Interdisciplinary PhD from Dalhousie University in 2013. Judah is an Assistant Professor with the Dalhousie University Department of Emergency Medicine, Division of Emergency Medical Services; a Sessional Lecturer for the Bachelor of Science in Paramedicine Program at the University of Prince Edward Island; and an Affiliated Scientist with the Nova Scotia Health Authority, Department of Emergency Medicine. Wade MacPherson is an Advanced Care Paramedic serving the city of Guelph and the Region of Peel in Ontario, Canada. Wade has been closely following the expanding utility of ultrasound technology in emergency medicine and is working to promote awareness and education around ultrasound and its many relevant applications to the paramedic profession. Wade has established himself as a leading proponent for paramedic point-of-care ultrasound in Canada and has garnered substantial professional relationships with the intention to enhance familiarity, awareness, and encourage capacity building for ultrasound to expand into paramedic practice. Wade has a number of educational achievements in the application of point of care ultrasound, including a clinical mentorship with the William Osler Health System department of emergency medicine, and workshops in ultrasound for shock, trauma, and resuscitation through Sunnybrook Health Sciences Center. Wade holds a graduate certificate with honours in Advanced Care Paramedic studies from Niagara College Canada, and a diploma in Primary Care Paramedicine from the Ontario College of Health & Technology. Wade is an active member of the Canadian Point of Care Ultrasound Society and has been recently selected to be one of the first nationally certified pre-hospital ultrasound instructors for CPOCUS.
